PagBrasil, a Brazilian payment technology company and pioneer in the global expansion of Pix, has announced a partnership with Liquid Group, a Singapore-based fintech specializing in interoperable QR code payment solutions. The deal will enable users of Liquid Group’s digital wallets—and its partner networks across Asia—to make Pix payments in Brazil and other countries where the system has been adopted.
The integration leverages Pix Roaming and Pix International, proprietary solutions developed by PagBrasil that extend the reach of the Central Bank of Brazil’s instant payment network beyond domestic borders. Currently, Pix is accepted in destinations including Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, and, more recently, the United States.
Liquid Group will integrate these technologies through its RoamQR™ platform, which connects disparate payment systems and e-wallets worldwide to facilitate instant, secure cross-border transactions via QR code. Under the arrangement, Asian travelers will be able to utilize Pix at participating merchants across supported countries.
Ralf Germer, CEO and co-founder of PagBrasil, stated that the partnership highlights “the global potential of Pix,” noting that integration with the RoamQR™ network will allow more international travelers to experience “the convenience and speed” of the platform. Jeremy Tan, CEO of Liquid Group, added that bringing Brazil into the network marks a major step toward a truly interoperable payment ecosystem, delivering “frictionless payment experiences” for consumers.
According to PagBrasil data, Pix International volume grew 53.3% between January and September 2025, while Pix Roaming surged 1,684.5% over the same period. On a trailing 12-month basis, combined transactions across both operations climbed 159.6%.
Tourism Boost and FIFA World Cup 2026 Momentum
The announcement coincides with record international tourism figures in Brazil. According to Embratur, the national tourism board, over 7 million foreign visitors entered the country between January and September of this year—an all-time high.
PagBrasil also projects accelerated Pix adoption in the United States ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The company anticipates expanded uptake among U.S. merchants, a trend bolstered by its existing strategic partnership with global payment tech leader Verifone. Furthermore, the fintech sees strong upside in using Pix Roaming to connect foreign tourists to Brazil’s payment ecosystem during major international events.
Foreign Exchange License Granted by Central Bank
In addition to the partnership, PagBrasil has received regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Brazil to operate directly in the foreign exchange (FX) market, enabling the company to execute cross-border fund transfers independently. The authorization, issued by the Department of Organization of the Financial System (Deorf) and published in the Diário Oficial da União in October, complements PagBrasil’s existing license as an official Payment Institution (IP).
