Demand among Brazilian investors for international portfolio diversification accelerated significantly following both rounds of the presidential election, driving a surge in new account openings and net capital inflows at Avenue, an offshore investment platform backed by Itaú.
On October 5, the day following the first round, the platform recorded a 130% surge in new account openings compared to its daily monthly average, while net inflows surged to 8.2 times standard daily volumes. Following the second-round runoff, the company reached its highest single-day mark for new account openings in 2026.
This capital movement mirrored shifting investor perceptions of Brazil’s macroeconomic outlook and foreign exchange dynamics. According to Avenue, while international demand spiked sharply after both voting stages, net inflows remained elevated in the days following the second round.
First Round Triggers Surge in Accounts and Net Inflows
On October 5, immediately following the first round of voting, Avenue recorded a 130% increase in new account setups compared to the daily average for the month. Concurrently, net inflows expanded by 8.2 times compared to a typical day.
According to the company, this initial wave was further catalyzed by a temporary dip in the U.S. dollar. The favorable exchange rate prompted investors to capitalize on lower FX conversion costs to transfer capital abroad, spurring demand for international asset exposure.
The spike demonstrated a swift reaction among platform clients to FX market conditions and the political landscape coming out of the first round.
Second Round Delivers All-Time High in Account Openings
Following the October 26 second-round runoff, Avenue posted its highest volume of new account creations of 2026, marking one of the strongest operational metrics in the platform’s history.
The capital expansion extended past the immediate post-election day. In subsequent trading sessions, net inflows held at three to four times recent daily averages, signaling sustained appetite for offshore asset allocation.
Emmanuil G. Inglesis, CFO of Avenue, noted that political and macroeconomic developments tend to accelerate an international diversification trend that has been building among Brazilian investors for several years.
Inglesis explained that while first-round capital flows were incentivized by a favorable dollar exchange rate, post-second-round activity was driven primarily by investor concern regarding Brazil’s fiscal and economic trajectory.
“What we have heard from clients following the second round is that the macroeconomic outlook in Brazil has worsened significantly, and they are concerned about future developments,” Inglesis stated.
The executive linked the heightened demand for global diversification directly to rising risk aversion among investors concerning the domestic economic environment.
Room for Growth in Global Asset Allocation
According to Inglesis, international portfolio diversification is an enduring structural trend rather than a temporary election-driven phenomenon. He noted that while the underlying shift has been developing for years, macroeconomic events that induce currency volatility or alter country-risk perceptions tend to act as immediate catalysts.
“This international diversification movement has been unfolding over recent years,” Inglesis observed. “What we observe is that macroeconomic events that significantly impact the dollar exchange rate and country-risk perception accelerate this trend.”
The CFO also emphasized that global asset exposure among Brazilian investors remains exceptionally low, indicating substantial room for further market penetration.
Against this backdrop, exchange rate fluctuations and shifting sentiment regarding the domestic economy serve as key triggers influencing when investors choose to execute international wire transfers.
October Projected as Record Month for Net Inflows
Driven by the surge in new accounts and capital deposits across both election rounds, October is on track to become the highest-performing month for net inflows in Avenue’s history.
The performance metrics recorded on October 5 and October 26 highlight two distinct catalysts for international exposure. In the first instance, a softer dollar facilitated capital deployment abroad. In the second, client anxiety regarding Brazil’s economic outlook became the primary driver.
The persistence of net inflows at three to four times baseline daily averages in the days following the runoff underscores the platform’s strong momentum throughout the month.
Avenue attributes these results to a convergence of political, economic, and foreign exchange factors shaping investor behavior. Moving forward, the firm views global diversification as an expanding secular trend, bolstered by the low existing baseline of international asset allocation among domestic investors.
